2009 Commencement
Posted by Jennifer Zurek at 2:03 pm

The Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies celebrated the achievements of the Class of 2009 with a commencement ceremony at DAR Constitutional Hall on Thursday.

Ban Ki-moon, the eighth secretary-general of the United Nations, gave the keynote address on “Global Leadership in a Time of Crisis.”

In addition to the 23 LASP M.A. students graduating, LASP Ph.D. Trine Lunde was hooded by Professor Francisco González (Watch Trine’s hooding in the video clip below). Her dissertation was entitled: “Escaping Poverty: Perceptions from 12 indigenous communities in Southern Mexico.”

LASP graduate Matt Kaczmarek had the honor of concluding the program as the student speaker. Both entertaining and heartfelt, his speech suggested that SAIS students are distinguished by the ability to ask a good question. You can view Matt’s speech in the video clip below.

Pictured below are LASP alumni Stephanie Lesser, Nicholas Kalmbach, and Matt Kaczmarek just before their big moment.
